Vicksburg is a city that is almost frozen in time. There you’ll find the National Military Park on the grounds of a civil war site. Each state has erected a civil war memorial as well as other memorials from other wars. Some of these memorials are surprisingly large. They have a visitors center, restrooms, a shop, and often reenactments.   Part of the park houses a unique memorial with a real civil war ironclad that was recovered from the river.  It has been restored and has a museum of its own.   If you’re passing through, bring your National Parks Pass.  You can just drive through (about an hour or two) or spend days here. Here’s a video showing some of our family’s highlights.
