The kids won’t forget seeing the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. Two great rivers.  It is a historical marker which bares symbolism in the Louis and Clark expedition.
On the east side of the Mississippi River,  a monument stands tall to remind us of the pact made between the two men.

The confluence is about a ten minute drive from the visitor’s center which is located just outside of St. Louis.   Parker’s favorite part was stirring up dust as we drove down the bumpy dirt road.  Make sure to get driving instructions before leaving the visitor’s center.  There are no signs indicating which dirt road to take to the landmark.   Once we got there,  we had a short walk to the water where they have built a nice observation area.

If you decide to venture out that way, verify that the roads to the confluence are open. Sometimes the roads are closed due to flooding.  There are places for a picnic and to bird watch.
